
A custom serum bottle project does not have to begin with a new mold. If you already have a LumLun product you like, a reference image, or a general packaging direction, the most practical route is usually to find the closest existing model first.
That gives the project a real structure to work from. You can then separate what is available within that model from what would require another existing model or genuinely new tooling.
Start with the closest existing model
An existing model already defines a bottle shape, neck or pump structure, component family and size range. That makes it easier to evaluate a reference without treating every visual difference as a new-mold project.
If you send a LumLun link or reference image, first identify what matters most: overall silhouette, bottle proportion, dispensing format, cap or pump shape, visible wall, or a combination of these.
A reference image is useful even when it is not a LumLun product. It gives the project a common visual starting point, while the actual recommendation can still come from LumLun’s existing product families.

Confirm what can change within the selected model
Customization should follow the options that are actually available for the selected product family. Depending on the model, that can include body color, printing, surface finish, matching visible components and capacities that already exist in the same family.
A 30 ml bottle should not be assumed to become any other volume simply because the shape is suitable. Likewise, a dropper closure cannot automatically be replaced by an unrelated airless pump. The model’s real structure comes first.
This model-first approach is also useful for artwork. Logo area, printing surface, cap height and the relationship between components can be reviewed on the assembled package instead of on a bottle body in isolation.
Use another existing model when the core structure changes
Some requests look like customization but are actually a different product family. A buyer may like the silhouette of a 30 ml glass dropper but need a larger PETG bottle, a pump instead of a pipette, or a completely different shoulder and closure.
In that situation, another existing LumLun model can be a better starting point. The goal is not to force one product to satisfy every request; it is to preserve the important design direction while moving to a structure that already supports the required function.
For serum projects, existing choices can include glass or PETG dropper families, push-button droppers, conventional pump bottles and several airless systems. The exact shortlist depends on the project, not on a single “custom serum bottle” template.
Use real product families to decide whether to customize or switch models
A reference can often be matched more efficiently when the available model families are visible side by side. For example, a buyer who likes a classic 30 ml glass dropper may stay with a glass dropper direction if the material and capacity are correct. If the same project needs 15 ml, 30 ml and 50 ml in one plastic family, a PETG thick-wall dropper series may be a better base. If the dispensing action changes to airless, an existing airless serum family is a more realistic starting point than trying to convert a dropper bottle.

The examples do not mean every request must use one of these products. They show how the sourcing logic works: if an existing family already solves the structural requirement, build the customization around that family before considering a new mold.
Know when custom tooling actually becomes relevant
Custom tooling is most relevant when the target shape, proportion or structural feature cannot be achieved with existing products. Examples include a genuinely new bottle silhouette, a special structural relationship between components, or a design that requires a new molded part.
There is no reliable universal rule such as “tooling only makes sense above a certain annual volume.” The decision depends on what has to change, the order size and the development scope.
A practical sequence is: closest existing model → customization within that model → alternative existing model → custom tooling only when the design still cannot be achieved.

Treat color, printing and finish as model-level decisions

Color and decoration can change the final look of a serum bottle, but the available process depends on the selected materials and components. Screen printing, hot stamping, coating and other finishes should therefore be confirmed against the actual model.
This avoids two common project problems: choosing a finish before knowing the substrate, and assuming that every visual effect is available on every component.
A sample gives the buyer something more useful than an abstract design rule: the actual assembled bottle, color, printing and component relationship can be reviewed together.
Choose the dispenser as part of the model, not as an afterthought
Dropper, conventional pump and airless systems create different structures. If the dispensing action is already important to the project, include it when selecting the first model rather than trying to swap the dispenser after the bottle body has been chosen.
For a serum line, this can also help keep different SKUs clear. One product may use a dropper because measured drops fit the formula, while another uses an airless pump because press-to-dispense use fits better. They do not have to share the same mechanism to belong to the same packaging family.
Move from a shortlist to sample and quotation
LumLun’s general OEM MOQ is 10,000 pcs. Custom samples generally take about 12–15 days, and bulk production generally takes about 35–40 days. Final quotation depends on the selected model, quantity, material, components and decoration, so one public price range would not be reliable.
